On Friday 18 October 2019 our firm hosted a charity fundraiser for Cure Cancer Australia at Sokyo Restaurant at the Star.
The cost of the event was entirely subsidised by the firm, so all monies raised by donations and our charity auction were donated directly to Cure Cancer Australia. Cure Cancer Australia work to support and fund early-career cancer researchers in an effort to shake up the science and work towards a cure. We were lucky enough to welcome CEO Nikki Kinloch and researcher Dr Vivian Kahl on the night, both of whom told us more about the amazing work they do with Cure Cancer.
Our 50 guests were treated to a four course Japanese inspired banquet menu, paired with cognac tastings generously provided by Pernod Ricard. A well-received comedic performance from David Smiedt livened up the evening – no guest was safe!
Our four auction winners walked away with a range of prizes: a Magnum of Mumm champagne donated by Pernod Ricard, OpenAir cinema passes donated by American Express, tickets to The Beauty Queen of Lenane at Roslyn Packer Theatre donated by the Sydney Theatre Company, and corporate lounge suite entry for the Western Sydney Wanderers v Brisbane Roar A-League game donated by Byron Thomas Recruitment. Thank you to all bidders and donors for your participation and generosity.
From donations and the auction combined, we were able to raise an incredible $15,628 for Cure Cancer. A special thank you must go to the Star Casino, who waived their fee for the drinks package on the night, allowing us to donate an extra $5,000 to the charity.

Sewell & Kettle are very grateful to all the guests for their contributions, and look forward to next year’s event.
