  • Negligent misrepresentation

A misrepresentation made by a person without intention to mislead, but without taking reasonable care to ensure its accuracy. It is actionable in a tort for negligence when the representor, who knows or ought to know the statement will be relied upon, holds himself/herself out as giving authoritative advice, and the representee relies upon it to his/her financial detriment.
